COVID-19 and a new version of tattooing.

The current coronavirus and COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the tattoo industry due to the intimate nature of our craft. Incognito Tattoo and Mr Incognito remain committed to following all the guidance that has been passed to us from our local health authorities. Most of the new protocols designed to help minimize transmission are listed below, but please feel free to contact your artist if you have any questions or concerns. We view this as a collaborative effort between tattooers AND clients to ensure both parties are participating in the tattoo process at the safest possible level.



What we will be doing:

  • Both studios are now "appointment only", we will not be able to take walk-ins, and our front door will remain locked to the public.

  • Our waiting area is now unavailable, we will instead let clients in when the artist is ready to see them.

  • Consultations for upcoming appointments will now be conducted via digital or video call methods, such as Facetime, or Skype, to reduce face-to-face contact.

  • Tattoo artists will no longer work together, but will work staggered days. So the shop will have a "one tattooer-one client" policy.

  • Each artist will self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms, including temperature checks, each time they come to the studio. If an artist or someone in their household is feeling unwell in any way they will not attend the studio, and will postpone appointments out of concern for the safety of others. We will also aim to be regularly tested by laboratory test if testing is accessible.

  • We have drawn up a detailed Exposure Control Plan and a Cleaning and Disinfection Plan to adhere to, that will involve regular cleaning and disinfection throughout the day, focusing in high-touch surfaces. The disinfectant that we use is EPA registered virucidal suitable for the COVID-19 response.

  • Tattoo artists have increased the amount of PPE that they will wear at the studio, to include masks, face shields and washable smocks or aprons, and will change their PPE between each client.

  • The amount of ventilation and air filtration has been increased, through the introduction of a HEPA air purifier among other methods.

  • Each artist will contact their clients 24 hours before their appointment to conduct a COVID-19 symptom pre-screen to confirm that the appointment can go ahead. We will also be providing clients with a new COVID-19 Symptom Form for clients to complete when they arrive at their appointment. If a client presents with any symptoms such as fever, sweats, body aches, body chills or shivering, headache, vomiting or diarrhea, dry cough, or chest congestion we will need to reschedule their appointment, at no cost. If anyone in their household is feeling unwell we will still need to postpone.

  • We now prefer contactless payment methods, such as Venmo and Paypal, Apple Pay etc. Please contact your artist for details if you prefer to pay cash.

  • We have posted signage at the entry to the studio and the front counter to communicate our new guidelines to our clients. This includes visual reminders to wear a mask at all times, to practice social distancing, and to regularly wash and sanitize hands while at Incognito Tattoo.

  • Artist portfolios, business cards, and merchandise are no longer available to view at the counter. We will direct potential clients to artist's digital folios that are available online, such as websites and Instagram accounts.

What we will ask you to do:

  • Please declare any feelings of illness before your appointment so we can make arrangements to reschedule if needed. When your artist contacts you before your appointment, please feel free to ask questions or discuss any concerns.

  • Complete and sign a COVID-19 release form to reaffirm the absence of symptoms and any high-risk activity. Contact details will be recorded on this form, including name, address, email and cell number. This will allow clients to be contacted in the event a potential exposure is subsequently identified. 

  • We will ask you to wait in your car, or outside, when you arrive for your appointment. Your artist will let you in the entrance when they are ready and set up for your appointment.

  • Sorry, but we can no longer allow friends or family into the studio. You must come alone to your appointment.

  • And we can no longer hug or shake hands, just a warm "HELLO!"

  • Please apply a clean or new double or triple-layered face mask as you enter the studio, and wear it at all times while you are in the facility, making sure your mask is covering both your nose and mouth. If you have access to a new KN95 standard mask, please wear to your appointment. Please note, masks with any outlet or exhalation valves will not be allowed to be worn at your appointment.   • Arrive with clean clothes, and remove your shoes when you enter. Please minimize the amount of personal belongings that you bring - we will be providing a safe storage space for them in the waiting area as they will not be allowed inside the procedure room.

  • Follow directions as to social distancing requirements, maintaining 6ft of distance unless during the process of applying the tattoo.

  • Our water cooler will no longer be accessible to clients, so please bring your own water, making sure that the container is lidded. Please don’t bring meals to your tattoo appointment. Snacks in a sealable bag are allowed, but must remain with your belongings in the waiting area.

  • Wash and sanitize hands upon arrival using our hand washing facilities, and at other times when requested during your appointment. If you can, please remove your hand jewelry as well.

  • Avoid touching your face or the outside of your mask while in the studio, and also limit touching of any shop surfaces. Please cough or sneeze into your elbow.

  • Notify your artist if you feel unwell in any way during the tattoo appointment. We will pause tattooing, and if necessary will postpone the appointment at additional cost.

  • Reconsider your appointment if you have serious pre-existing medical conditions, for example if you are recovering from cancer, have autoimmune issues, and are over 65 years of age. We are happy to discuss options for tattooing if you are in this category.

  • At this stage, we ask clients to quarantine for 14 days if they have traveled on a commercial plane, train or bus before attending their tattoo appointment.

Other appointment information:

  • Please bring a government issued photo I.D. to your appointment. You must be 18 years of age or older to be tattooed.

  • We will not tattoo anyone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • A deposit is required for appointments and prior to any drawing being undertaken. This deposit is non-refundable if you fail to show up for your appointment. Please contact your artist for more details.

  • Make sure you have had a good night’s sleep and a healthy meal before your tattoo, and stay hydrated.

  • The more relaxed you are during your tattoo, the better experience you will have. Because we are all wearing masks now, conversation during the tattoo will now be a little difficult. So just focus on your breathing, or practice a little meditation whie you are getting tattooed.

  • Aftercare instructions will be explained to each client at their appointment, and we will also email you a copy for your reference.
